Blog » Norfolk Industries supports BECO. SOS marketing campaign
As this was such a great idea, Norfolk Industries wanted to BLOG about BECO. new marketing campaign, SOS (#StealOurStaff).
We have agreed to assist in the promotion of this campaign, for several reasons –
1) It’s a very worthy cause.
2) Their mission is closely aligned with our own, to get people with disabilities into employment.
3) It’s a brilliantly developed and effective campaign to raise awareness of the skills and strengths of disabled people.
4) They are operating within a manufacturing environment and competing in the commercial market just as Norfolk Industries is.
5) We wish to learn from BECo in how they are going about this to ensure Equality and also to protect people’s data.
Take a look below at the information and let us know any comments that you may have at the bottom of this BLOG.
BECO. Making Soap With a Purpose
Can a soap brand really make a difference?
BECO. says yes, absolutely. And so can everyone else.
They have made it their mission to close the disability employment gap and are asking other companies to do the same.
BECO., the social enterprise soap brand is taking a new approach to business, calling on competitors and UK employers to take a stand when it comes to recruitment. 80% of BECO.’s workforce is visually impaired, disabled or disadvantaged – BECO. want to show big corporations the value and skillset in every person by encouraging employers to follow suit and see workability, not disability.
1 in 5 people living in the UK are disabled and an estimated 48% are unemployed – that’s over one million job-seekers looking for opportunities and a disability unemployment gap of 30% (only 52% of disabled are employed vs 82% of the general working population). BECO. are on a mission to change that.
BECO. founding charity CLARITY & Co., have supported the employment of people with disabilities for 165 years and September 3rd 2019 sees BECO. launch an employment drive calling on employers to #STEALOURSTAFF and help close the disability unemployment gap. BECO.’s campaign highlights their staff in the hope that those who want to, will go on to secure jobs outside of the organisation and free-up opportunities for new staff in need of employment. Staff profiles will take over the brands packaging in key retailers Waitrose and Sainsbury’s and on the BECO. website showing consumers and would-be employers the chance to get to know the talented workforce behind the brand.
HOW YOU CAN HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Help BECO. share the suds
Keep buying BECO. soap for your homes and offices. Everyone can create real and sustainable change, just by washing their hands. Every bar of soap and bottle of handwash BECO. sell helps to provide real jobs for people with disabilities. If every person in the UK switched to BECO. soaps, the brand could create 45,000 new jobs for people with disabilities.
Make a new hire. You won’t regret it.
Whoever you are looking for and whatever the skill, the BECO. team are some of the most passionate staff you’ll come across, many with decades of experience. Take a look at BECO.’s employees and their CVs on beco.co.uk/stealourstaff.
“I wish other organisations would give people like us a chance. There are so many disabled people unemployed and I’m sure there are plenty of big companies that can do more to help.” Michael, Team Leader, BECO.
Norfolk Industries is helping BECO. by -
- Sharing social media posts to promote the #StealOurStaff campaign
- Being a Disability confident employer
- Learning from the BECO. marketing campaign on how to promote our own disabled workforce and volunteers to potential employers
“We want to give people who want to work, the opportunity to work. It’s as simple as that. Some of our staff at BECO. have been at the organisation for more than 30 years, and as much as we love our team and their loyalty, we want to help them and others have opportunities and so that as a society we can close the disability unemployment gap. On average, there are over 250 applications for any corporate role in the UK, so it’s hard to stand out. The only way we were going to make a difference was to go big and reach the millions of supermarket shoppers through the CVs on our products and calling on big corporations to make a stand and change their hiring policies. We need everyone to start acting to help make this happen.” Camilla Marcus-Dew, Head of Sustainable Growth, CLARITY & Co.
Norfolk Industries would also like to encourage any potential employers whether large or small to get involved and more importantly consider people with disabilities for any vacancies that you may have. Don’t judge individuals upon first impressions, with small easy adjustments or sometimes no adjustments at all, people with disabilities can learn the task and can be the most reliable and loyal employees you will ever have!
Here at Norfolk Industries, we have not had any absence through sickness by any of the staff team since November 2018 (that was just one day) and this includes a team of people who have a range of complex disabilities. This just goes to show that people with disabilities do not take more time off work due to sickness or illness!
So now you know how to help, get involved! Just by changing the hand lotion in your bathrooms you can make a real difference. Or maybe BECO.’s #StealOurStaff campaign will help change the way you view recruitment and you will hire someone who you would usually pass over. See Workability, not Disability.
BECO. is available nationwide at Boots, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, selected Co-op stores and the Ethical Superstore.
