Learning about Autism and Learning Disabilities

It’s great to be employed by a company that sees training and development as an investment in our best assets – Our Staff.

Working with people with disabilities, it is important that we continue to develop our knowledge around disability generally and so Oliver McGowen training has just been rolled out to support this knowledge.  This training has been developed to learn from the upsetting story of Oliver who was failed by the medical system on multiple occasions which unfortunately, eventually resulted in his death.

Whereas the medical side of things is not appropriate to Norfolk Industries, the information contained within this training with regard to communication and the concept of ‘Ask, Listen, Do.’ is excellent.  As such we will be putting together parts of the Oliver McGowen training to deliver to our whole staff team during one of our team meetings in the near future.

Providing your staff with the tools to better understand and support others who may not know how to express themselves fully, is just part of what we do here at Norfolk Industries.  But doing it well informed is even more important.
